If you search "portrait photographer Austin," prices swing from $50 mini-sessions to $2,000+ luxury packages, and it's hard to know what's fair. Here's an honest map of the Austin market in 2026 — and exactly where my own pricing sits and why.
Typical Austin price ranges in 2026
- Quick headshot / mini session: $75–$250. Short (15–30 min), a handful of edited images. Great for LinkedIn, profile photos and content.
- Standard portrait session: $150–$450. 30–60 min, 8–20 edited images, more direction and variety.
- Family session: $200–$600 depending on group size, location and prints.
- Event coverage (quinceañeras, baptisms, birthdays): $300–$1,200+ depending on hours and deliverables.
- Personal branding / small-business content: $400–$2,500+ for a full library of images across looks and locations.
The wide ranges aren't random — they reflect very real differences in experience, editing time, and what you actually walk away with.
What actually drives the price
- Time on camera — a 15-minute mini is a fraction of a 2-hour event.
- Editing depth — natural color-correction is faster than detailed retouching; both take real hours per image.
- Number of final images — more delivered photos means more culling and editing.
- Location & travel — studio is simplest; on-location shoots add setup and travel.
- Experience & demand — established photographers with a deep portfolio charge more, and book out faster.
My pricing — transparent, no surprises
I keep it simple and posted publicly so you never have to ask:
- Mini — $80. 15 minutes, 4 professionally edited photos + a private proof gallery. Best for LinkedIn, IG content and a quick headshot.
- Portrait Session — $150 (most booked). 30 minutes, 8 professionally edited photos + proof gallery. Best for branding, graduation, couples and creative portraits.
- Event Coverage — $350. 2 hours on-site, 100–200 selected photos with color and exposure editing, gallery in 10 days. Best for quinceañeras, baptisms and birthdays.
- Restaurant / brand content — custom. Quoted to your menu, team and space.
On-location shoots add a small travel fee based on distance, and extra fully-edited photos are +$10 each. That's the whole price list.
Why "price per photo" is the wrong question
It's tempting to divide the price by the number of images, but that turns photography into a commodity. You're not buying files — you're buying direction so you don't freeze up, lighting that flatters you, editing that still looks like you, and a result you'll use for years. A single headshot that lands you clients is worth more than 200 forgettable frames.
How to get the most value from your session
- Book the right tier — don't pay for 2 hours if a 30-minute Portrait Session covers your goal.
- Bundle — a couple or two co-founders can split a back-to-back session and each get their own set.
- Come prepared — a clear goal and the right wardrobe means we spend the session shooting, not figuring things out.
- Use the proof gallery — pick your real favorites for full editing instead of guessing.
